I am pleased to announce that Gable Design has been selected to assist the owners of Issei Noodle to design their up-and-coming location off of Erford Road in Camp Hill, PA. We are incredibility excited to turn their vision into reality, creating a Japanese Modern space with clean lines, natural light, and a welcoming atmosphere.
With the office only a few minutes from this new location, I for one can say with absolute certainty that I have my pants with the elastic waistbands ready! This new location will focus on take-out and delivery services, with a drive-thru! Yes, I said it! You will soon be able to get all things delicious without leaving your car! Or house!

Quality ingredients, genuine flavors, fresh produce… These are the brick and mortar values that Issei has been constructed upon.
Issei Noodle opened its doorways to the neighborhood of Carlisle, PA in April of 2007. The owner’s Naomi and Robert Pham have taken their love for food and blended it with their love of their family and community to create what Issei embodies: a comfortable environment and a place where people can create and share memories along the enjoy of “old” or conventional flavors with a twist.
A New York Times article, highlighting their location in the Lancaster, saying “the menu unites the family’s dual heritage, with pho and ramen sharing equal billing. The restaurant’s bright, unapologetic flavors have proven so popular that last month, the Phams opened a stand in the [Lancaster] Central Market.“
the DESIGN AESTHETIC
The project goal was to create a striking and attractive brand-identity within a compact space. The images above served as inspiration for the Japanese modern design, being respectful to both the traditional Japanese materials used in a contemporary way.
The key was to use natural elements in neutral tones, including concrete, wood and metal; carefully selecting and placing them in a way that does not feel cold.
Simplicity was key for the materials, but they also needed to show dimension. We found this amazing paintable wallpaper (top right image) to mimic the aesthetic of a bamboo grove in a contemporary way.
The richness of the wood tone contrast nicely with the charcoal accents and concrete finishes, pulling the dark undertones from the lighter materials.
Yūgen (幽玄- Japanese ) – Profound and suggestive, to show more by actually showing less.
